FSC® Certificate
The FSC certificate guarantees that the wood used in a product comes from forests classed as ‘properly managed’, as approved by the autonomous Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC).
Criteria
The FSC assesses forest management based on strict standards for the environment, social circumstances and economy. An extensive, worldwide monitoring system guarantees that wood with an FSC certificate actually comes from sustainably managed forests.
Under the regulations of the Forest Stewardship Council founded in 1993, wood must be identifiable in any end product. FSC maps out the route the wood takes from forest to consumer, referred to as the ‘chain of custody’. FSC is an autonomous organisation with representations from:
- Environmental and development organisations
- Forestry organisations
- Local populations
